چکیده

We study theoretically and numerically the bending-driven levelling of thin viscous films within lubrication approximation. derive Green’s function linearized thin-film equation further show that it represents a universal self-similar attractor at long times. As such, rescaled perturbation film profile converges in time towards function, for any summable initial profile. In addition, stepped axisymmetric conditions, we demonstrate existence another, short-term one-dimensional-like regime. also characterize convergence long-term terms relevant physical geometrical parameters, provide local hydrodynamic fields global elastic energy regime as functions time. Finally, extend our analysis to nonlinear through numerical simulations.

Approach to universal self-similar attractor for the levelling of thin liquid films.

We compare the capillary levelling of a random surface perturbation on a thin polystyrene film with a theoretical study on the two-dimensional capillary-driven thin film equation. Using atomic force microscopy, we follow the time evolution of samples prepared with different initial perturbations of the free surface. In particular, we show that the surface profiles present long term self-similar...

Self-Similar Rupture of Thin Liquid Films with Slippage

In this dissertation the formation of interfacial singularities of fluid surfaces is studied. Starting with a discussion of the most important physical effects, a two-dimensional model, which includes physical effects such as surface tension, intermolecular forces, and Navier-slip boundary conditions, is constructed. By applying symmetry assumptions and a reduction formalism1 this model can be ...

Self-similar rupture of viscous thin lms in the strong-slip regime

We consider rupture of thin viscous lms in the strong-slip regime with small Reynolds numbers. Numerical simulations indicate that near the rupture point viscosity and van-der-Waals forces are dominant and that there are selfsimilar solutions of the second kind. For a corresponding simpli ed model we rigorously analyse self-similar behaviour. There exists a one-parameter family of self-similar ...

Sensitive Humidity-Driven Reversible and Bidirectional Bending of Nanocellulose Thin Films as Bio-Inspired Actuation

DOI: 10.1002/admi.201500080 concerns pine cones, where asymmetrically positioned differently aligned layers of the nanoand mesoscale cellulose fi brils induce asymmetric water swelling, leading to bending. [ 15 ] In this way, the structure can be considered to be a biological counterpart to so-called bilayer actuators, which are extensively used in technology and science, involving different ex...
